ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – The Mississippi River is set to crest and residents of Clarksville are working hard to keep their town safe. Flood waters have already shut down most of Highway 79 and FOX 2’s Anthony Kiekow was able to make his way through the flood ravaged area to tell us more from the riverbank.
Some water has slipped through cracks in Clarksville even after thousands of volunteers came from across the region to help. The matter is so serious that the State of Missouri sent 50 Missouri Department of Corrections offenders to help protect the town from flooding.
Forecasters are predicting that the river will crest Wednesday at 10 feet above flood stage.
If you want to help sandbag, call the Clarksville City Hall at (573) 242-3336.
