ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – Robots are taking over downtown St. Louis this weekend.

The U.S. FIRST robotics competition returns to St. Louis and thousands of students from around the world are in the Edward Jones Dome to participate.

Admission is free.

Organizers expect as many as 12,000 students from 38 countries to compete with their custom-built robots.

“This is the championships, so only the best of the best robots are here,” Las Vegas team member Wyatt Harwood explained. “The robots have to move a ball and get it into a net.”

Many of the students will win college scholarships through the competition.

More than 400 robots are involved.

The robots are stored at the America’s Center, but the competition is on the field at the Edward Jones Dome.
