ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)- A photograph of a St. Louis police officer’s blood soaked shirt moved many St. Louisans this week. The blood was from a six-year-boy whom a St. Louis police officer rushed to the hospital.
The child, Marcus Johnson, was riding in a minivan full of children and adults after leaving O’Fallon Park Wednesday night. Police say a car pulled up alongside the minivan on West Florissant and someone inside opened fire. A 15-year-old and a 69-year-old man in the minivan were also shot. Marcus’ father grabbed a gun, returned fire and called police.
In a heartfelt blog post, St. Louis Police Officer Don Re said the officer in question arrived before paramedics. The boy was critical, so the officer placed him in his car and raced to the hospital in hopes of saving the child’s life.
Officer Re wrote in his blog that “his shirt said it all.”
The little boys heart, so close to the officers own heart left this horrific reminder on his blood stained uniform.
